BBC 1 (1968) ident Day 1
Просмотров 2,1 тыс.Год назад
ITV's new stations were due to start broadcasting on the 27th July 1968 with a new set of idents and jingles. On Monday 7th July 1968, BBC-1 replaced the watchstrap ident with the floating globe and occasionally with a jingle.
BBC 1 The Robins Christmas 1985
Просмотров 1,7 тыс.Год назад
It started off okay (though the turntable seemed to get slower by the day). The globe was used for closedowns - but David Miles gave the robins a mention at close on Christmas Day. By Boxing Day the preceding trailer dropped into the ident - Already the heads were now just nodding and not moving from side to side plus, the backlighting stayed light blue and the top robin had just about resigned...
Christmas 1978 BBC1 (recreated)

Probably remembered for the strange size of the word Christmas compared to the head. As you can see from the position of the lettering Noddy was not particular when he moved around. One slight knock and everything was out of place. I’m pretty sure a still picture was used at closedown again …. But it’s a long time ago.

Has to be an imagined recreation as that year they decided to put a still photograph with the National Anthem on all three days the ident was used.

I'm sat at home with Covid. I was a 9yo in 1983. I miss those gentle times and the family members I have lost. Christmas was magical, everything was closed and roads quiet we didn't have much but we spent Christmas together and it was cosy

Yes, how times have changed! The once trusted and highly thought of BBC is now a mere shadow of itself! Such a shame that an institution like the BBC is now run by complete morons more interested in being seen to champion the cause of the moment and appear down with the kids! The Church of England made the same mistake and look at it the state it is in! Complete nonsense on stilts!

Looking at the clock, British television went to bed very early back then at 12.05am. In the states, ABC, CBS and NBC were all on air until at least 1am. Each had their own late night talk show - NBC had Johnny Carson's Tonight Show, CBS had Merv Griffin and ABC had Dick Cavett each on air until 1am.

Listened to the BBC WS in Belgium during the 1980s on shortwave. Was an important part of my day. "BBC World Service. The news, read by Pamela Crighton." "This is Tommy Vance with Rock Salad. Music on the heavier side." -Or something to that effect. How about those endless lists of local sports match scores? Tide listings? "The Brotherhood of Brass" 😊
